WEEK 42'S THEME IS: "BLAST TO THE PAST"

I call this "Vintage Madison" - I used a favorite hat prop, lots of pearls and only one light over head. It was edited in Alien Skin's Exposure 5 using Platinum processing and a watercolor border. I always LOVE vintage portraits.I saw a great technique yesterday where you shoot the shot into the mirror - a giant mirror. I was in love with it and wanted to try it, but alas I have no giant mirror. YET. But think about it, it give a really cool grain for a vintage shot!

What's NEW with Daphne Ellenburg?

My trip Tuscaloosa was a huge success. We had so much fun. We walked all over campus. I did some roll tide shopping. I bought the best button. I can wear it every year to every game!

Untitled

The kids had a great time! Here's me and Madison before I made her walk 3 miles. :-)

Untitled

Then we watched our team win with the best view ever.

Untitled

And here we are after the game. Jefferson made it all the way through without a nap. Shocking.

Untitled

Tuesday I tried my hand at Real Estate photography. I was pretty proud of me. The photomerge feature in the new Photoshop CS6 is lightyears ahead of 5 - if you haven't tried it. Do it. This is 5 photos rolled into one.

WEB Living Pano 2

I watched my big boy toss other big boys to the ground on Thursday. 60 is mine.

Untitled

Did a Vendor show on Friday night and I met a lot of great new people and got to show off some beautiful smiles. I also met a lot of people who had no idea we had a beautiful new studio on the MAIN strip of town. So much for that $1500 sign. {sad face}

Untitled

We also joined the chamber. So hopefully we won't be a secret for too much longer.

Untitled

Wishing you a wonderful week of family fun and photography. Can't wait to see where you blast into the past.

Life is full of ups and downs. Rain on your day off - Down. Finding $20 bucks in your fall coat - Up.  The dead beat on your fantasy team that always sits your bench has an amazing day - Down. The guilty pleasure you've been eyeing for weeks is finally on sale - Up. It was great to dig into your week and check out some ups and downs. Happily, we photographed more ups than downs. That's a really nice outlook on the week. Things I thought I'd see but didn't: The Yoyo {which Madison can proudly spell, over and over again.} or the bouncing ball. My week had more ups than downs, hope yours did too!

Our top ten is always in no particular order. When you enjoy the shot, check out the artist. Send them some love. Photography is a fickle love, we are all trying to manipulate our camera to seeing things like we see them and when you get it right, it feels good. Really good. So send over some love!

Here we go...

Week 40's theme is: Guilty Pleasures ~ What's yours?

Confession: I can't stop buying scarves. I have a real problem. I bought 6 this week alone. It's fall now and the stores are putting out those super cute knitted scarves that you can only find this time of year. That's how I reason it out. It sounds GREAT in my head. And then I buy. So, if you're my husband, you're saying, "Daphne, you only have ONE neck - what's with all the scarves today?" I'm wrapping babies in them. "Are you going to wear it after a baby's ass has been in it?" Yes I think I will. I LOVE scarves.

Here's a peek at my set up and scarves...

What's new with Daphne Ellenburg?

I started my week with a visit from my amazing Sorority Big Sister. I wanted to show her my new studio and talked her into a birthday photo to celebrate not looking 39 at all. We tried out the new V-flat with success. We had dinner, cake and had the best Sunday evening. I wish she lived closer to me.  Meet Dr. Dodge.

Untitled

Jefferson had a big week. He now has 2 more teeth for total of 6 and took a record 26 steps in a row. I know this because Grant spends a chunk of his afternoon counting baby steps. He's a great big Brother.

Untitled

I had the best massage ever at a super cool place. The W. It just sounds cool. My super awesome husband bought a massage for me and my BFF at a new salon. It was fantastic. And the "Nail Bar" is a real bar that you sit at, order a martini and you get your nails done at the bar. Talk about a great way to end the week. I'd like to have my nails done here every Friday. Who's with me?

Untitled

And this just in. The egg nog is back. I love the fall. And I love egg nog, even in September.

Untitled

Wishing you a wonderful week filled with family, fun and photography. Can't wait to see your guilty pleasures!

Anticipation. Anticipa...a....a...a..tion. Seriously, I can't be the only one that had that song in their head this week. Thanks Carly Simon. All week I kept thinking about all the great things I'm anticipating, like wearing my new boots. I love fall fashion. Football. Talking about Football. Wearing my team colors. Being surrounded by people wearing my team colors. Not sweating every time I walk outside. I think I love everything about the Fall. It is Definitely my favorite season, hands down.

You guys found a lot of great inspiration with anticipation. We saw weddings, the anticipation of weddings, lots of back to school and some fun sports. I really enjoyed seeing all the fun things you are looking forward to.

Our top ten is always in no particular order, when you LOVE the photo, check out the artist. The artist links are directly below the photograph. Here we go...

Week 34's theme is: FAUX

EP 130817 Faux-1a

I enjoy many fake things, but for this week I narrowed it down to faux bling. I love big cheesy jewelry especially in my studio on tiny little girls. I have a special box of this stuff and my regular girls are always eyeing to see where I have it tucked away. Moving it around is half the fun.

Settings: ISO 160, 85mm, f/1.8, 1/125 sec

Here's the set up:

130817 Faux set up

Nothing fancy. One softbox and wooden saddle stool.

What's new with Daphne Ellenburg?

I have been crazy busy with the Fall Rush and spent any free time with my babies. It is the last week of summer here and my kids have been milking it for all its worth. You know staying up later, sleeping in and generally being worthless.

Most evenings this week after dinner, my 3 oldest would abandon the top floor for a round of video games downstairs and Jefferson and I would watch a terrible show about french talking rabbits. He loves it. I do not get it. Rabbits living in paris, wearing clothes, going to school and studying martial arts. What?

Untitled

I picked up the new glamour and have been spoon feeding it in tiny does before bed. I don't get this new grainy glam style for fashion photography. It's stupid. You're being paid like a rockstar, sharpen that shot up. It's not 1984 anymore.

Untitled

This book bag purchase put me back in the running for MOM of the year. It's not even close to cold here and kids can't get enough Northface It's crazy.

Untitled

And this grainy out of focus shot is how I plan to spend many evenings this week. Surrounded by my mini-mes, in my pj's watching Gravity Falls - the greatest cartoon on TV, in my opinion. Watch it.

Untitled

And by the way, I'm kicking my carbs out and dropped 5 pounds this week. Get off me baby weight. He'll be a year next month, I better get on it.
Wishing you a wonderful week filled with family fun and photography! Make it magical.

This week, I've been thinking about my glass. Is it half full or half empty? Or is it overflowing. Some days it feels like it's half empty because I'm always so busy and some days it feels like it's half full because I'm so wonderfully busy. Starting a new business that you can't work in pajamas is a real challenge. If feels more REAL than ever before.

I don't know about you, but I've been spewing out proverbs all week. Seriously, I've used, the lemons, the gift horse, the smoke and fire, the patience is a virtue. I love them! You photographed some of my favorites!

Week 33's theme is "Anticipation. " The fall is almost here, what are you looking forward to?

I know what I'm looking forward to. It's not wearing my new boots, but that is on the list. Only 19 more days until the start of college football. I can see it now, every Saturday for months planned and spent with some of my best friends and favorite people wearing our favorite colors while glistening in the unforgiving Alabama Sun. This is baby Allie. She was in my studio this weekend and it looks like she can't wait 19 more days either!

What's New with Daphne Ellenburg?

This week I spoke in Springhill about the Ellenburg Photography Experience. I like to think I do more than just take beautiful portraits. It was a fun time and my table was amazing!

Untitled

I added a new 20x30 portrait to my wall. Yep, those are MY babies. And this is the first portrait I photographed in my new space.

Untitled

Held my baby. A lot. He's rocking a few curls.

Untitled

Baby Jefferson was baptized and photographed. He was stunning in his all white! He's on the Move and will be sure challenge next month for his First birthday portraits!

Untitled

I saw this and it made me laugh. I think you'll enjoy it too.

Untitled

And, can you believe I found time to paint my nails? That's been on my list since the More time week! Wishing you a great week filled with family, fun and photography! Can't wait to see what you are anticipating for next week!

When I think about the word Soft, lots of things come to mind. Soft processing. Soft Colors. Soft socks. My abs. Its nice to see the soft things that you came up with that I hadn't even thought about - like clouds or feathers or fabric softener! I really love the great fun mix of ideas we feature here every week. You make this group a joy to host, no matter how crazy my week is or how many things I try to stuff into my day, this is one of my favorite places to be.

Our top ten is in no particular order. When you love the photograph, check out the artist, chances are you will love more of it. Send out some love. Give out some pats on the back. It feels good!

Week 30's theme is "YELLOW"

Yellow like the Twinkie I almost ate or the streak of fear trying to ruin the greatest time in my career or like this umbrella and a girl with the golden curls. I love Yellow. It's one of my favorite colors. Can't wait to see all the yellow things you find.

What's New with Daphne Ellenburg?

I feel a lot like I'm holding a candle burning at both ends while walking a tight rope. My mind is constantly spinning with new ideas and unfinished tasks. Sigh. Still no grand opening in site. {YET} There's no sign, there's no internet. But I do have customers. Thank goodness for GPS. And, I might get my internet next week.

So I found these... Wish I could say I tried one, but they must have been pretty good since they are all gone. Welcome back Twinkies.

Untitled

Micheal and Jackson ran speaker wire for my new music system. That's right. I'm going to play the new John Mayer, Loud.

Untitled

They took my sign down this week. Now I can stop turning away haircuts. But it might not be back until the 29th. Sad face.

Untitled

I didn't spend nearly enough time this week doing this.

Untitled

I'm completely in love with Smoothie King. I think the Peanut Power is straight from Jesus.

Untitled

Michael has blocked off both doors to the kitchen with super tall baby gates. Jefferson loves being trapped in the Living room.

Untitled

My art is on the walls. I looked at these 20x30 beauties and felt really accomplished. Mike hung them so they are measured to perfection. He's the best guy ever.

Untitled

So all week, I imagined,

Untitled

and painted

Untitled

and created this masterpiece. It's Twenty feet of awesomeness. I think this afternoons first "Runway Fashion Adventure" birthday party is going to be a real hit. {But pray for me anyway}

Untitled

Wishing you a wonderful week filled with family, fun and photography! Make it a great week.
