Sometimes the truth is hard to hear.  Wednesday, my husband but his hands on my shoulders, looked me in the eyes and said; "Daphne, you are dreaming too small."

Whatever.

My dreams are HUGE.

He thinks I've outgrown my home office. I love my home office. When clients come over they become friends. We swap stories. We make memories. We drink lemonaid. I don't want to have a big impersonal studio that is too busy to get to know people.

He wanted me to go out and look for studio space. That made me uncomfortable. But also a little excited. So, I drove around and called a number on the side of a building. It was rented. {Sad face} But she gave me Seven more addresses. So I drove around some more. I peeked inside 1 thru 6 and got lost on the way to 7, but ran into a real gem. I pressed my face against the glass, called the owner and got the tour. It was fantastic. It was bigger than I thought I wanted. It was in my budget. It was decorated in my colors. {OMG!}

I told Michael. He came out to see it. He said, do you want it. I nodded. So, he paid the deposit for me. Then I cried like a baby.

Maybe we all dream a little too small. Without Risk there is no reward.

Time is flying. I'm always so impressed with how baby Jefferson is changing every month. He's almost nine months now. He still has no teeth but almost twice as much hair as he had last month. He still can't seem to stop smiling. And that makes me smile too. Newsflash: He's now on the move. Yes, he's crawling!  Every day is an adventure. I'm happy I can photograph these moments for him and for me.

Enjoy my Gatsby shoot with the new 35 mm 1.4 lens. Loving this lens. I'm so impressed that I hardly need any light to rock out some great shots.

It's hard not to feel like Christmas Morning when a box from B and H is delivered to my door. I know that anything in the box is going to be awesome. I tear in to the box with the anticipation of a small child to unwrap my new shiny toys. Rip, Tear, Ohhh, Ahhhh. So what was in box?

A NEW 85mm 1.8 - Ooooooh!
Lens

and the NEW Sigma 24-70 2.8 - Ahhhhh!

Lens

As the super busy Mother of four, I was eager to test them both immediately, but it was my night to cook dinner. Drama. Imagine the horror if Tuesday Taco night was even delayed slightly. {Sigh.} Multi-tasking was certainly on the menu now.
Stir, Stir, Stir, Snap, Snap, Snap.

First up the 85 mm 1.8. A little heavier than my 50mm 1.4. Super sharp. Super fast. (These are all right out of the camera, because you know, I was cooking dinner.) And they look fab!

Best part - the shot is too tight for you to see my oldest son attempting to photo-bomb my test shots.

That's a good looking baby.

Next up the Sigma 24-70 2.8 ~ the 24 is so wide, I'll have to make sure I don't photo-bomb myself. Yep, those are my feet.
fb 24 130312 Lens Test-03

Sharp at 43, 45 and 70. Overall - I'm pretty darn happy.
How about this Bro-mance going on here?

And now a few words from my Model, Baby Jefferson...

And what does all that mean?
I think he's saying, "That 85 is Ah-May-Zing! Start saving NOW for the 1.2"
That's my boy.
Giving it the Studio Test this week! Fingers Crossed for Awesomeness.

Valentine's day. A day of love. A day of excitement. Also known today as, the day after my epic Valentine FAIL.  Shopping for a man who has everything is both a challenge and a piece of cake rolled up into something that is squishy like a twinkie. I can usually just look around for something he's just bought and compliment that. I'm a genius.

My husband, Michael rarely reads anything that is not a snoozing {yawn} business book written by someone I've never heard of ~ with the exception of his coveted Sports Illustrated magazine. I find that magazine all over the house. It's even on his iPad - so it's totally portable! I knew his subscription was about to expire - so what a great idea ~ I'll renew his subscription and wrap up the new issue. Brilliant! I spent the first half of the week patting myself on the back for my awesome wifeness; until the new issue arrived Wednesday.

Come on, This week is the Swimsuit edition, Seriously? Is this every Valentine's week or just the year I decided to gift it out? Thanks a lot Sports Illustrated. So, I looked through it, and fought the urge immediately hit the gym. Where are the rest of these swim suits? I admittedly didn't buy a suit last year, but did they change that much? I don't know about you ladies, but I didn't feel comfortable wrapping up a half naked woman for my honey for Valentine's day. So last night, here's how it went down: I slid it over to him, cover down. "Here you go, it's still coming every week. Happy Valentine's day!" and "By the way, pretty sure Jackson (our oldest boy) thumbed thru it when he got the mail" Awesome. Happy Valentine's day!

Wishing you an awesome day filled with ooey gooey love!

And here's a peek at my tiniest Valentine, sweet Baby Jefferson.

Delicate. When I was thinking about the way I could photograph this week's Project 52 theme, I was surrounded by lace. Three different kinds in fact, dreamy soft pink, Plain Jane white and super stretchy ivory with extra ruffles.

5/52 Delicate Lace

Week 5's theme is Delicate. But the more I thought about the word Delicate...the more I let it roll around in my head, I was missing the BIG picture. Delicate is not just the lace. It's who I'm putting in the lace.

Life is delicate. Time is delicate. This special time I have with my only baby girl is special. I wish I could bottle four years old forever, and share it. Or even better, save it. She will only be little for a little while. She won't race to front door when I open it for the FIRST hugs forever. {This happens every day} But I hope it's forever.

Embrace time today. Let your hugs linger longer. Smile a little bigger. Today is yours. All of it. Make it Great!
