When I think of colorful food, I almost always think about colored pastas in wacky shapes first and then I think about candy. Mmmmm, Candy! I enjoy food photography.  I can photograph it and then I can eat it. Sounds like a win win to me.

This week we had a huge ice storm. I saw 5-7 or more inches of sleet as far as the eye could see. It was pretty exciting. We spent Wednesday goofing around in the ice as a family. I took nearly 300 photos of adventure when I remembered that I hadn't photographed any food. I had the gummy bears delivered from the cabinet to the ice and away we went on our colorful food adventure.

5/52 Don't eat the Yellow One.

This shot was photographed with the Sigma 24-70 in the middle of the day at 17 degrees. Brrrrrrrr! The shot was a bit flat so I gave it a cool crop and ran it through NIK's Sharpening output. I cranked up the structure to 90% and it really pulled out the detail in the sleet and my bear ears. So, did I eat them? Nope, Princess Fiona ate these :-)

Our top ten is always in no particular order. When you enjoy the photograph, check out the artist. Chances are you will enjoy more of their fantastic work! Artist links are directly below each photograph. Ready. Set. Here we go...

Week 6's theme is RED.

Sneak Peek: Week 7 is LOVE.

What's new with Daphne Ellenburg?

The week started very exciting. Madison lost her second front tooth.

Week 5

She was very disappointed that Tooth fairy doesn't deliver only quarters. She traded her dollars for quarters and was quite satisfied.

We had two family game nights in a row while waiting for the ice storm. We take our Jenga very seriously.

Week 5

I think I wanted it to snow just as much as the kids. We haven't seen snow since 2008. It sleeted for hours - nearly the whole day and most of the evening and we had a 5 hour window for snow but it never came.

Here is Ice Daphne.

Week 5

We made the most of our ice. Here are my babies in my front yard. It's covered in hills that they slid down over and over again on cardboard.

fb 140129 Snow Day-15 EDIT

I love this shot. I want to make it BIG. Grant's cheeks are always so rosey.

fb 140129 Snow Day-22 EDIT

Here is our snowman. Our biggest one ever! Immediately after this shot, Jefferson removed his nose and took a bite out of it. That kid was a lot of fun in the ice.

fb 140129 Snow Day-65 EDIT

Sadly, our three day Ice Vacation came to an end on Friday. I went back to work. The kids went back to school. We had high temperatures in the 60's and some of the ice melted, but not all of it. It sure is nice to look at. At least I took plenty of photos of our many adventures.

Wishing you a wonderful week filled with family fun and photography and lots of the color RED. I'm gearing up for it by watching the Movie Red. Great Movie.

I'm not a real borrower. I blame my Mom for that. If I said the word "Borrow" even at a whisper, she would come out of no where like a phantom and say "Daphne, Don't borrow something you can't pay for!" or "Daphne! Don't borrow things from your Friends!" What stranger is going to let me borrow anything? My Mom is quite a worrier. She is also famous around here for saying, "Don't borrow Trouble!" I don't even know what that means because it is was seriously over used while I was growing up. It could mean anything as far as I'm concerned. I think the thing I'm guilty the most of borrowing is Time. If it were not for the last minute, I'd be out of minutes. I love the last minute. I can really get stuff done in the home stretch!

I loved seeing your borrowed shots! We've got everything here from children to a cup of sugar. I love it. You guys rocked out another fun week! And I know you don't want to hear it, but keep it in the back of your mind...we still haven't done self portrait week. It's coming, there are only so many weeks I can keep moving it back. Our top ten is in no particular order. When you LOVE the artist, check out their other work. The artist links are directly below each photograph. Find them on Facebook. Become BFF's. Week 44's theme is "Halloween FUN"

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, because it's the one day I can be someone else. I can't wait to see your Halloween Fun.

Remember when your baby was sleeping and then was  startled ~ they stick out they hands and legs and get super stiff. Their fingers do this super funny thing that this week I've been calling "Halloween Hands" - Yep, I'm photographing another baby.  Seriously, it's 4 babies in 4 days around here.

Meet Baby Nicholas. These are his Halloween Hands.

44/52 Halloween Hands

What's new with Daphne Ellenburg?

For starters, my harvest fest was a big wet disaster. Most of my stuff was ruined by the rain because water is kryptonite to your photographs. But fortunatly, my super worrying Mother warned me of the 40% chance of rain which gave me time to reprint the canvas that I was bringing which really saved me $200. Thanks Mom. Best part of the show was watching my baby girl dance in the rain. Yes she did. And she had great time doing it. Here she is goofing off with her girlfriends.

Untitled

Sunday we rocked out the Lawn Party benefiting The little sisters of the Poor. We had a great time and Madison tried to eat her weight in Cotton Candy.

Untitled

Jefferson's baby book came in from Italy. Yep. Italy. These guys make all my super awesome wedding albums. Seriously it's gorgeous.

Untitled

And for no reason, here's a photo of me Thursday under a hair dryer. I haven't been under one of these since 1989 - Prom flashback.

Untitled

Remember my worrying Mom? Here she is worrying about the Fox video on youtube.

Untitled

I made this at 5am on Friday.

Untitled

And then I put it on this baby. I love making new props.

Untitled

I finished Friday the way all Friday's should be finished.

With a claw machine victory. (we think it's a cat)

Untitled

And a Margarita.

Untitled

Wishing you a fantastic week filled with Halloween FUN! Make it a great one!

Now I'm off to photography twin one year olds...

WEEK 42'S THEME IS: "BLAST TO THE PAST"

I call this "Vintage Madison" - I used a favorite hat prop, lots of pearls and only one light over head. It was edited in Alien Skin's Exposure 5 using Platinum processing and a watercolor border. I always LOVE vintage portraits.I saw a great technique yesterday where you shoot the shot into the mirror - a giant mirror. I was in love with it and wanted to try it, but alas I have no giant mirror. YET. But think about it, it give a really cool grain for a vintage shot!

What's NEW with Daphne Ellenburg?

My trip Tuscaloosa was a huge success. We had so much fun. We walked all over campus. I did some roll tide shopping. I bought the best button. I can wear it every year to every game!

Tuesday I tried my hand at Real Estate photography. I was pretty proud of me. The photomerge feature in the new Photoshop CS6 is lightyears ahead of 5 - if you haven't tried it. Do it. This is 5 photos rolled into one.

I watched my big boy toss other big boys to the ground on Thursday. 60 is mine.

Did a Vendor show on Friday night and I met a lot of great new people and got to show off some beautiful smiles. I also met a lot of people who had no idea we had a beautiful new studio on the MAIN strip of town. So much for that $1500 sign. {sad face}

Untitled

We also joined the chamber. So hopefully we won't be a secret for too much longer.

Wishing you a wonderful week of family fun and photography. Can't wait to see where you blast into the past.

Traditions are not just for the holidays, but it seems that during the holidays everyone has a special tradition. When I was a little girl, we had a candle. It was HUGE and my mom only lit it on Christmas day. It's kind of a weird tradition when I look back on it, but that candle lasted 21 years and every year my brother and I fought over who got to blow it out. It was great to see your traditions, to see all that we have in common and to see the unique things that are part of your family. Christmas is a magical season. You guys captured it perfectly. Merry Christmas.

Week 52's Theme - "It's Not the End"

52/52 A Great Beginning

52/52 A Great way to End 2012 By Ellenburg Photography

Looks like the Mayan tricked me into some extra calories this week, and a few less workouts. No hard feelings here Mayans. I got to try a gingerbread milkshake and a peppermint chocolate chip shake that I would have ordinarily turned my head to. Yes, two milkshakes in two days. So who's the real winner? I think it's me. Here is a great moment from my not so end of the world week.

And here's another one just because I love them so stinking much. {And because I love Christmas photos in black and white.}

Speaking of the Not the End...now is a great time to join Project 52 for 2013. We've got lots of new faces joining our group everyday. Check it out here.

What's New with Daphne Ellenburg?

It's been a full week of adventure here...

Attended mass and sneaked a peek to next week, just to make sure. {Like you didn't look.}

I spent a lot of time painting my rental house. My opinion, there is nothing worst that painting a house you don't live in. This color is called Guacamole. Why? Because I love guacamole. It was a fate moment at the Lowe's paint counter.

The 2012 photo project has been a delight to host. Thank you so much for participating. Be sure to tune in next week for a special reveal!

Merry Christmas where ever you are, I know Santa will find you and your amazing family.

"The Eyes have it" was a wonderful week 50 theme to photograph some of our favorite eyes to look into. It was nice to see so many beautiful children this week. The eyes of a child. There is nothing quite like it. Everything is so exciting to them. The smallest thing makes them twinkle like a star or cry like the rain. I think my favorite is that spark when they learn something new. Every day with the ones you love is a blessing. Without having to talk about it, Friday was a tough day for us, but so much worse for so many.  This weekend, I know we are all holding our babies a little closer. I get a little misty when I gaze into those tiny eyes that look just like mine.  I know you are too.  Pray. Pray hard.

Here we go...the top then is never in any particular order and I don't choose them at any particular time. I love them all week and really struggle to snag out ten every week. If you enjoy the artist, the link to their work is directly below, please visit their sites!

Week 51's theme is "Tradition"

I photograph all my babes every month for the first 2 years. They change so much those first two years and I love that I can capture that exciting time for them. Baby Jefferson is 3 months old, isn't he a doll?

What's new with Daphne Ellenburg?

I started my weekend by working with the Help Portrait project in Fairhope, Alabama. Help Portrait is simple: Find someone in need. Take their portrait. Give it to them. It's such a wonderful experience. If you get the opportunity to do it next year in your area, do it. It's a GOOD feeling.
