How much is too much?

The biggest question we have from new parents is: "What do I bring to my Newborn Session?"  Leaving the house for the first time with that perfect little angel is a real wake up call for your packing skills. The first time, if feels like you are moving. Seriously. You think....What do I need, well obviously I need everything....diapers, diaper stuff, clothes, more clothes, extra blankets, extra pacifiers, bottles, extra bottles...breathe. Stop.  Just breathe. Daphne Ellenburg's Newborn homework will really save the day.

Every portrait session at Ellenburg Photography includes homework and a bring list. So no matter what we do for you, you will get a list of suggested things to bring and suggested things to do. We've been doing this for quite a while, so you can trust us. And for newborns, no one is better than South Alabama Photographer, Daphne Ellenburg. If you are nervous, Daphne will assure you that everyone is nervous. But the proof is in our homework. If you do the homework, you will have a great session. If you miss a few, but do the items listed in BOLD, you will have a great session.

Our checklist includes things that you should have in your diaper bag, it has a list of things to pack the day before - so you don't have to think about it. Our list will ask you to bring one special item for your new baby to be photographed with and one special outfit.

Baby Elizabeth (shown above) was given a strand of pearls by her father on the day she was born. This was the perfect thing to bring along for this family's "special item." Other great specials things could be: A family quilt, A sonogram photo or other special photograph, New fun shoes, a headband or crown - if it is special to you, Daphne Ellenburg will make it part of your shoot.

For your special outfit, many new parents bring the coming home outfit from the hospital. After all, a lot of you parents are spending sometimes hundreds of dollars on that one outfit, it's the perfect add in to your session. Other things that are great to bring is vintage clothing from your childhood - some grandparents saved a ton of sweet delicate baby clothes. Ask them if they have any that you could bring along. Can you imaging having a photo of you and your baby in the exact same outfit? So fun. If you have the first photo, bring it along and Ellenburg Photography can try to match the style.

The next most important part of your homework, is to plan to be photographed with your child. We poll all of our new parents at the consults and ask them if they have a photograph of their Mom with them as a newborn? Less than 5% can say yes to anything more than just a snapshot. We will create a gorgeous portrait of you and your new baby that will reflect all the joy you feel in your heart back to you like a mirror. We will also photograph your first family portrait. The homework comes with a suggested wardrobe guide to make it easy.

The homework includes things to eat and not eat if you are breastfeeding. It includes a sleep schedule and a suggested feeding schedule. It includes a list of things to bring.

The LIST is a lifesaver. When you do your homework, you make the most of your time in the studio and get really stunning portraits of that beautiful new baby.

Always Bring Something Special.

For as long as I can remember, part of our Newborn homework has always included for our parents to bring something special for your baby to be photographed with or in. And for as long as I can remember, it has been a special outfit. For most parents, it has been that extra special coming home from the hospital outfit that you paid way too much for and getting an extra wear out of it is always a win.

Recently, the more we get to know our clients, that bring is getting sentimental. I've seen the pocket watch that belonged to Dad, the Quilt that has been in your family for generations, and this week I saw the gift Daddy gave me the day I was born.

On the day she was born, this Daddy gave baby Elizabeth a strand of pearls. Maybe she can't wear them now, but she will always know that he gave them to her. And he can pull out this gorgeous portrait as he tells this great story over and over again as she grows and grows.

They are only little for a little while. Celebrate littleness with the professional photographers at Ellenburg Photography. Daphne Ellenburg knows that you really and truly only get one chance to create amazing Newborn Portraits. Babies grow nearly twice their size in the first month and if you used an amateur or someone who failed to prepare you for the portraits, this moment is gone forever. You can trust Daphne Ellenburg. Ellenburg Photography photographs hundreds of new babies each year. Every session comes with consultations, portrait homework and an in person ordering session so you can ask all the questions you have in the cozy privacy of our baby friendly studio. Don't let littleness slip past you.

Is your family growing by one or more this season? or Is it happening to someone you love? Send them our way. No one will take better care of you.

Are Two Week Babies still Newborns?

New babies come at you like a tornado. No matter how much you plan or how much you learn, there is always something unexpected that will come at you out of nowhere. Everyone who has babies has run out of diapers, forgot to write down a feeding, forgot to pick up the first child because the you were napping with the new child. Seriously, life is going to happen. But what if your tornado moment is an unexpected LONGER stay in the hospital? I had two Mom's this week tell me that they missed their newborn portraits because there baby had to stay in the hospital. I was immediately sad both times and inquired how long they had to stay. Document your family’s unique story with one of South Alabama’s most sought after photographers for newborn, baby and family portraits. With years of experience, Daphne knows how to delicately position newborns in poses that enhance their sweetness. While the baby sleeps most of the time during a newborn photo shoot, there is plenty of time for breaks for feeding, diaper changes, and cuddles. Those first years with your children pass so quickly, and professional photography is a way to preserve these precious moments forever.

There is nothing more beautiful and sweet than newborns. Many people never lose the desire to hold babies or to be near babies – babies seem to bring out the goodness and joy in everyone. Newborn photographer Daphne Ellenburg knows this.  South Alabama Mothers and Fathers dread the day their newborns are no longer newborns, because they enjoy that innocence, tenderness and purity, which presents itself in a peaceful and delicate manner. Now there is a way to preserve those lovely images forever and pull them out whenever you need to reminisce, or are having a moment of nostalgia and that is with newborn photography. Newborn photography will make it easy for you to keep those tender moments lasting forever. Daphne Ellenburg specializes in newborn photography in Saraland Alabama.

Newborn photography in and around the Alabama Gulf Coast is best done in the first 10 days, while babies are sleeping deeply and curling up naturally into those adorable womblike poses. Older babies often squirm and can become fussy making it very difficult to capture the moment. They begin to learn to move move around and when they can’t settle down, they cry – often making the photography session very stressful and frustrating for new parents. Not to mention, colic and baby acne can flare up after the first two weeks. However, with a newborn, you rarely get that lack of cooperation. Because newborns sleep ninety percent of the time, Saraland Alabama newborn photographer, Daphne Ellenburg, has a much easier time posing them and photographing them.

If you have a newborn baby or are expecting one soon, one of the best ways to preserve those fond memories that seem to slip away so fast is by having professional Alabama newborn photographer, Daphne Ellenburg photograph your beautiful baby. These memories are truly priceless, and will be treasured for a lifetime as precious works of art. Trust the newborn photography experts at Ellenburg Photography with your new baby.
